PREPARE A STORM KIT

The following storm kit contents are based on recommendations from the U.S. centers of disease control and prevention.  A large plastic trash can with a lid, can be used to store these items.  Periodically check batteries for freshness.

  • Water- three gallons for each person or animal who would use the kit
  • Food- a three day supply in the kit, non-perishable foods that don’t require heating are a good idea
  • Kitchen accessories- a manual can opener;  mess kits or disposable cups, plates and utensils; utility knife; sugar and salt; re-sealable plastic bags
  • A portable battery-powered radio
  • Several flashlights
  • A first aid kit and medications
  • One complete change of clothing and footwear for each person
  • Blankets or a sleeping bag for each person
  • Sanitation and hygiene items- shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, comb and brush, lip balm, sunscreen, toilet paper, soap, hand sanitizer, plastic garbage bags
  • Other essential items- paper, pencil, needles, thread, small fire extinguisher, whistle
