Is tornado coverage included in your home insurance in TX? As part of Tornado Alley, Texas is no stranger to these extreme weather conditions. As of 2004, the average number of tornadoes that occur each year in Texas was 139. The best way to prepare for a twister may be to learn everything you can about them. Below are a few facts that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration believes everyone should know about tornadoes.

  • Tornadoes can occur anytime and anywhere. No location or season should be considered safe.
  • In the United States, they are most likely to occur to the east of the Rocky Mountains.
  • They are most frequent from March to August.
  • Twisters can produce super high wind speeds, with the strongest tornados boasting speeds of 250 miles per hour or more.
  • They usually form when warm air is pushed aside by a cold front.
  • They can also occur during hurricanes and tropical storms.
  • Tornadoes are often invisible to the eye until enough dirt and debris is pulled in.
  • More than one tornado can occur at once.
  • Waterspouts are twisters that form over bodies of water.

Tornadoes may not be a daily occurrence, but when they do appear, these deadly storms can destroy everything in their path. Are you protected by adequate home insurance in TX? Residents who are lacking in coverage should contact one of our agents to adjust their policies.
